Lie-Nielsen Scrub Plane #40 ½

A scrub plane is ideal for quickly removing large amounts of wood! In the past, these planes were widely used to bring rough-sawn boards to thickness before the final finish with a smoothing plane. Nowadays, this plane, based on the Stanley 40 ½, is still used for that purpose, but it is increasingly applied to shape irregularly formed objects.

The scrub plane is made of Ductile steel, has a bronze attachment for the blade, and features a cherry wood knob and handle. The blade of the plane is almost 5 mm thick, which helps avoid unwanted vibrations. The large sole opening allows for rapid chip ejection, even at a significant planing depth!
