Lie-Nielsen Small Shoulder Plane #041
article number: 25718Product information
This rabbet plane (also known as a shoulder plane), a redesign of the Record Shoulder Plane 041, which in turn was a further development of the smallest Preston model, is almost entirely made of ductile iron. Only the blade-clamping mechanism is made of bronze.
Fastening and adjustment screws are extra-large, making them easy to use. The screw for adjusting the blade opening is deeply recessed in the plane body and securely attached and tapped into the sole, allowing for adjustment of the blade opening when turning either left or right. The side is often used as a sole, for instance, to make the upright edges of a dovetail fit. This means that a rabbet plane frequently has to flatten end grain, requiring a low mounting angle of the blade.
This rabbet plane has a width of 16 mm, making it suitable for creating tenons for heavy mortise and tenon joints.
