Product information

This two-piece hand scraper set consists of one scraper with a blade thickness of 0.5 mm and one scraper with a blade thickness of 0.8 mm. The thin blade, due to its flexibility, is perfect for scraping short, challenging surfaces. The thick blade scrapes coarser and is ideal for larger surfaces.

Extra information

Lie-Nielsen cabinet scrapers
The Lie-Nielsen cabinet scrapers are made of high-quality Swedish steel, hardened to Rockwell 49-51. This ensures that a burr will remain suitable for use for a long time. The long edges are perfectly straight. If you intend to use the short edges, you'll need to file them straight yourself before creating a burr.

Before using the scraper, it is recommended (though not necessary) to create a burr on the edges. Secure the blade in a bench vise and use a burnisher to create a burr on all sides so that the scraper has four cutting edges. When sharpening the scraper, make sure the old burr is removed and use a stone or file to get the scraper perfectly straight again. Afterward, you can create the burr as described above. When finished, clean the scraper with paper and oil, then wrap it in paper for storage.

A scraper can finish surfaces that are impossible for planes. However, excessive work on one area may lead to a loss of control over the flatness of the entire surface. A scraping plane is a good combination with cabinet scrapers: work on challenging surfaces with a cabinet scraper until you are satisfied, then use a scraping plane to ensure flatness.

During the Baptist Weekend Show 2008, Simon van der Heijden demonstrated the Lie-Nielsen cabinet scrapers:
