Lie-Nielsen low angle smoothing plane #164
article number: 15170Product information
The Stanley 164 served as a model for this plane, which is essentially a shorter version of the low-angle jack plane #62. Therefore, the 164 also features an adjustable blade opening in the sole and a heavy, almost 5 mm thick plane blade resting on a bed at a 12° angle. This plane is only 240 mm long.
Similar to the jack plane, the 164 excels in both rough and fine work and, aided by the comfortable top-side Bailey depth adjustment, can be quickly adapted to the nature of the tasks. This plane is particularly suitable for unruly, cross-grained wood, such as curly maple, and, due to the low angle, is also suitable for planing end grain and small surfaces. The 'low angle smoothing' plane has a body made of Ductile steel, a bronze Bailey adjustment, and features a cherrywood knob and handle. After some acclimation, you will notice that this plane fits perfectly in the hand and, with its weight of 1.7 kg, exudes authority!
